Get to Know Tracy, Our Newest Trainer 🎉
I'm really happy to introduce Tracy!
Tracy has just joined the DediKate team as a strength and HIIT trainer, specialising in Peri to Post Menopause!
Tracy's been in the fitness industry for 33 years, starting out as an 18-year-old aerobics teacher in New Zealand. From there she went on to manage personal training and group training teams, became one of the original Master Trainers for Les Mills NZ, and was headhunted to help grow Fitness First across Asia. That took her and her family to Hong Kong and then Malaysia for a number of years, training thousands of instructors and eventually building a team of 80 trainers across 8 countries. At one point she and her husband also ran their own fitness clubs, FIRE Fitness.
She's a Bachelor of Physical Education, has an MBA, is a 200-hour registered yoga teacher, and picked up a Les Mills Lifetime Achievement Award along the way.
But the part of her story that matters most...
For this role is that her own background was all cardio, competitive aerobics, triathlon, marathon running, until perimenopause hit and none of it worked the way it used to. That sent her into studying exercise and nutrition for women in midlife properly, and it's why she went on to build Sexy Ageing, her podcast and book (My Menopause Memoir), plus workshops and retreats for other women going through the same thing.
She's back in New Zealand now, living in Tauranga with her husband Dave and their two kids, Jazz and Sol. Her mantra is "you're never too old and it's never too late."
How's that for a list of of credentials... we are super pumped to have her join the team!
I sat down and asked her a few questions to get past the CV a bit.
Me: What's the first thing you do in the morning that sets your day up right?
Tracy: I give myself 20 minutes to have a coffee, journal and pray. It sets my priorities and gets my head straight.
Me: If you could only do one type of movement for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
Tracy: It used to be running and spin classes, but for the past two years, it's been strength training. That's now my go-to.
Me: What's something you believed about fitness years ago that you've completely changed your mind on?
Tracy: That walking isn't exercise. Walking is the most accessible form of movement, and it can help in more ways than just burning calories, it can lower your blood pressure, support your heart health and improve mental health. I walk every day, sometimes twice a day.
Me: If your workout style was a personality trait, what would it be?
Tracy: Ambivert, I've been known to break out in dance moves between exercises and yet I wear headphones most of the time LOL.
A few just for fun...
Me: What's a song that instantly changes your mood the second it comes on?
Tracy: Anything EDM (Electronic Dance Music) actually. It might surprise people that I'm a huge EDM fan and regularly attend festivals. Have even been to Ibiza, twice!
Me: What's a place you'd drop everything to visit tomorrow if you could?
Tracy: Right now, on my bucket list is Marrakesh, Morocco.
Me: What's the last thing that made you laugh until it hurt?
Tracy: My husband literally has me laughing most days.
The DediKate Effect!
Me: What's one small win this week that made you genuinely happy?
Tracy: Shooting my first workout video for DediKate!
Me: If DediKate members could expect one thing about training with you, what would you want it to be?
Tracy: That I'm serious about helping them achieve their goals but I don't take myself too seriously. I'm definitely here for the fun.
That last one is probably the best summary of her I could ask for. Serious about the training, not precious about herself!
Welcome to the team, Tracy.
We're genuinely lucky to have someone with your experience, and your energy, on board.
Her first workout goes live at 7pm Sunday 6 September. If you're already a member, go say hi in the workout comments, she'll be reading them.
If you've never trained with us before, honestly, there's no better time to jump in!
