Kate's Story!
As we celebrate our 7 year anniversary, let us reintroduce Kate!
There's more to Kate Ivey than just fitness.
It was the struggles that Kate faced during her earlier years in life that led to the creation of DediKate and Kate Ivey Fitness, now both successful online fitness websites.
About Kate
I live on a farm near Twizel and Aoraki Mount Cook in the South Island of New Zealand with my husband and three children, aged 13, 11, and 8. Life is hectic, but I love it that way!
Throughout various stages of my life—starting university, traveling, and having children—I struggled to prioritise my health and fitness. This led to feelings of dissatisfaction, weight gain, and low self-confidence. As a farmer's wife and a mom, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find time for yourself. However, exercise became my saving grace. Through short, 20-30 minute workouts at home, I rediscovered my identity, felt good about myself again, and regained my confidence.
However, Kate wanted more...
However, Kate wanted more...
I've always dreamed of having my own business or career. With a young family and living so far from town, this seemed challenging. When my youngest was 18 months old, I started feeling restless and eager to dive into something new. My husband once suggested starting an ice cream truck, which made me realise I needed to pursue something I was truly passionate about!
With a Bachelor of Physical Education majoring in Exercise Prescription, a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology, and about 10 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, a light bulb went off! Due to my qualifications and experience, as well as the lessons I learned through my own struggles, I realised I could also help others! This included Mum’s and those who struggle with time and location to get to the gym.
Kate Ivey Fitness was born!
And that's how Kate Ivey Fitness and DediKate came to be! It all began as a simple printable PDF, and for the first four years, it was just me. Now, Kate Ivey Fitness is celebrating its 7th anniversary, and DediKate its 6th! We have grown into a team of 8 trainers from both Australia and New Zealand, a nutritionist, and 2 fantastic marketing and exercise experts working behind the scenes.
I feel incredibly fortunate to do what I love, but I still face plenty of everyday challenges—living on a farm, running a business, and raising a family. I share these experiences to help you feel normal and inspire you to stay consistent with your exercise, so you can feel great too.
